The landscapers came by my Mom’s this morning, this is said landscaper’s truck. As everyone can see it’s a short bed with a diesel tank in the bed. What you can’t really see is the toolbox that is also in the bed. There is about 3 feet of usable bed space.
Why?
Why buy a truck and fill the bed with shit you probably don’t need? Congratulations, your Ram 2500 now has the same bed space as a Geo Tracker convertible.

i used to work at an aftermarket parts store (work stuff and mild performance items) I would see this sort of stuff often, at least you could still slide piping or plywood under the tool box

Because it’s a vehicle purchased by the business and insured by the business but is used by the owner as a personal vehicle when not at work, because tax write off. The owner of a now insolvent company I used to work for did this with an SL500 and an Acura MDX.

Could be the boss’ truck?
My old boss drove an FJ so no equipment would be put in it as he knew how trashed the work trucks got

Does he tow a trailer around?

It’s a transfer tank and a tool box in a truck used for landscaping. Do they do excavating too? Maybe tree trimming? They might actually need the shit they probably don’t need, and didn’t need an extra couple feet of bed space.
Personally, I’m a fan of single cab long beds, but I don’t have to cart a crew around.

Don’t forget the blacked out brake lights!

Because that diesel tank in the bed is full of tax-free off-road only diesel, and the owner of said truck has likely reloacted his fuel pump into that tank rather than his in-vehicle tank.

A couple reasons I can think of - Hauls a crew with him so wanted full 4 door and it’s a landscaping company, he probably has a trailer when it’s needed.

He put a toolbox and diesel tank in the bed of his SL500?! Gnarly.

ha.ha. No he purchased two luxury vehicles and had the company foot the bill for them.

You’re aware that virtually everything you need for a basic landscaping job will fit in that truck bed, right? I drive a short bed with a toolbox myself, and I can carry a pretty good load of tools.
Also, trailer.

Very possible, and I may have rushed to judge but to me it still seems like this was a case of “You know what would be cool on my truck....”

I didn’t see a trailer but, there was a guy on a riding mower. I wish I had been here when they left to them put it in the bed.
EDIT: I only saw two guys some I am not sure if there was a crew but, it is entirely possible.

The taillights and KMC Rockstar are what are leading me to think this was bro’ed out.

It could have been.

There wasn’t one attached to the truck and I didn’t notice one in the street when we left. However there was a guy riding around on a riding mower, which would not have fit in the bed. Maybe it got dropped off by abother truck I didn’t see.

It’s entirely possible that I rushed to judge but, the blacked out taillights and KMC Rockstars led me to believe this was a case of broness.
I don’t know if they do anything besides yard work.
I don’t get why the didn’t have a long bed. To me if I was buying a truck for work I would have gone with a long bed. But, I don’t know.

Sure the wheels and lights (probably lift too) are there for “aesthetics”, but I don’t think transfer tanks are yet.

Maybe he hauls earth moving equipment and that extra diesel tank comes in handy?

Like I said I could be wrong, in this case. But, external tanks have reached the point of being a cool to have on your truck even if you don’t need them.

As I said above I could have been wrong. But, to me this seems broish.

I had to clean a manual diesel dually regular box regular cab once. Work truck. Carried the different sized bucket for an excavator. That is it. To the yard and back. One site to the next. Luckily it had vinyl floors and seats. No radio or AC. Cleaned it with a pressure washer. Inside and out.
Purposeful use of space likely. Not a bad thing. Bro ing it out is just a thing to do.
